Monday, August 13th was our first full day in San Diego. We decided to go to the zoo since Brookie is finally old enough to enjoy things like that. Of course that day was the hottest day San Diego had all summer. But we were prepared with hats, sunscreen and water. Adam could still barely walk from his half marathon and then sitting in the car for hours on end. We almost got him a wheelchair (ha!) but decided not to. I think the walking was actually good for him and a few hours into it he was walking like a champ.
Brookie was so cute and would point at everything she liked.
I tried to show her some fish but she got really scared and freaked out. She likes looking from a distance like her mama.
Brooklyn's very favorite thing was to gorillas. She was laughing hysterically at them and they put a pretty good show on for us. They were running around and fighting and putting their butts up against the glass. She couldn't get enough of them.
We took some time to cool off whenever there was shade.
The San Diego Zoo is huge so we decided to take a bus tour around the park so we could see as many animals as possible. I am so glad we did it because we would have never been able to see everything just walking around and we learned a lot of interesting things from the tour guide.
After the bus tour we grabbed some lunch and decided it was too hot to keep going. So we headed back to the hotel for a bit to swim and cool off until it got a little later and the temperatures cooled off. On our way out we grabbed Brooklyn a few little souvenirs. We got her a cute little gorilla figurine since she loved the gorillas the most and a little zoo coloring book.
Then we headed back to the zoo for the rest of the evening. We took the tram across the park and enjoyed the fabulous views of the whole city.
We watched a little 3D movie and it scared Brookie a little with all the special effects.
Then we wandered around the park for a few more hours looking at a few more things we hadn't got to see yet.
We had planned to go to go to a restaurant that we had heard really great things about for dinner. But by the time we got done at the zoo we didn't have enough time before it closed. So we ordered pizza and hot wings and had it delivered to our hotel room. I'll never complain about have pizza for dinner!!
